An unimaginable pair, Superwoman and Monkey King is the main character to Jacky Tsai’s The Affair to the East. Inspired by one of the four great novels in Chinese classical literature, Journey to the West, the painting portrays reactions towards the transnational love of Monkey King and Superwoman from past lover, fellow comrades and allies.

Published during the 16th Century Ming Dynasty, Journey to the West is an extended account the legendary pilgrimage of the Tang Dynasty Buddhist monk XuanZang. The book follows Xuanzang’s Journey to the West while fighting against demons on the way along with help from his Three Protectors.

In Tsai’s The Affair to the West while several are opposed to the unity of two extremes, a few clan members admire and support their extraordinary love. A Versatile Tale of love, The Affair to the West is a visual tale of the love story between traditions breaking Monkey King, and love-seeking Superwoman.

The Affair to the east, a phenomenal tale of love where tradition meets love, where freedom meets loyalty.
