Tatler Asia — The Origins of the Floral Skull

07th May 2013

In this early interview with Hong Kong Tatler, now archived by Tatler Asia, Jacky Tsai discusses the experiences that shaped his visual language: growing up in Shanghai, studying in London and developing the floral skull during his time at Alexander McQueen.

The conversation follows his collaboration with Lane Crawford and the creation of a large-scale Skullpture. Tsai reflects on the contrast between flowers and skulls, his interest in finding beauty in decay, and the possibilities of working with paper, leather and silk.

It offers a look at the ambitions and experiments of his early career, as he began to move from graphic design and fashion towards a broader artistic practice.
