In 2024, Jacky Tsai reunited with Shanghai Tang to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary, a decade after their first collaboration. Beginning with the Year of the Dragon collection, the partnership continued throughout the year across seasonal clothing and homeware.
The opening collection centred on the auspicious dragon, reimagined through floral patterns and ornamental forms. Subsequent collections carried Tsai’s richly layered imagery into new palettes and settings, tracing a continuous dialogue between his art and the objects of everyday life.
Through this collaboration, Tsai continues his long-term exploration of cultural hybridity, transforming historic iconography into a vibrant contemporary language and bringing new energy to one of China’s most iconic fashion houses.
The Lunar New Year collection brought the dragon motif to clothing, accessories and homeware. Celebratory reds, intricate patterns, Mandarin collars and knot fastenings connected traditional Chinese visual references with contemporary forms.

Harper’s BAZAAR China — The Year of the Dragon
For a 2024 Harper’s BAZAAR China editorial, actors You Benchang and Huang Jue wore pieces from the SHANGHAI TANG × Jacky Tsai collaboration. Known for their roles as Uncle Ye and Qiang Mujie in Blossoms Shanghai, the two actors brought the collection into a fashion story that connected the drama’s Shanghai setting with the brand’s contemporary Chinese aesthetic.
You Benchang wore the collaboration’s dragon-jacquard reversible Tang jacket, with Tsai’s intricate golden dragon motif across the back. The portraits and garment views preserved here document this part of the Year of the Dragon launch.
Spring / Summer 2024
Bright blues, pinks and reds animate the spring/summer collection. Tsai’s imagery moves across shirts, dresses and flowing fabric, while close-up views reveal the interplay of printed detail and traditional collar shapes.
Autumn / Winter 2024
The autumn/winter collection brings vivid flowers, birds and imaginative figures to both deep and light-coloured grounds. Seen on womenswear and the printed men’s shirt, the imagery creates a shared visual language while the fabric gives the compositions movement and lightness.

The collaboration also extended into the home, where tableware and decorative objects became surfaces for Tsai’s artwork. The theatrical tabletop arrangement and patterned chess box show how the same visual world can move from clothing into spaces for gathering, play and everyday rituals.
