In 2024, Jacky Tsai was commissioned by Lancôme, a leading brand of the L’Oréal Group, to create a special Lunar New Year art project and limited-edition gift set.

At the heart of the collaboration is Tsai’s iconic Flower Dragon, a visual symbol that reinterprets the traditional Chinese zodiac through his signature East–meets–West aesthetic. The dragon’s body is constructed from layered floral patterns and flowing ornamental forms, merging the celebratory language of Chinese New Year with Lancôme’s refined Parisian identity.

The work continues Tsai’s long-term exploration of cultural dialogue — where traditional symbolism is transformed into a contemporary visual experience. In this project, the dragon becomes both a festive totem and a poetic bridge between two worlds: the strength and vitality associated with the zodiac and the elegance and softness intrinsic to the Lancôme universe.

Developed across multiple formats, the artwork was translated into packaging, spatial visuals and campaign imagery, forming a cohesive artistic system that extended from object to environment. Widely featured across retail spaces and digital platforms, the collaboration reached a global audience and redefined the visual language of Lunar New Year through a contemporary art perspective.

Rather than functioning as decoration, the project positions art as a cultural mediator — transforming a seasonal product into a narrative experience that celebrates identity, renewal and cross-cultural imagination.

“I have always been interested in translating traditional cultural symbols into a contemporary visual language. With Lancôme, the dragon becomes a bridge — connecting heritage, femininity and a shared vision of beauty across cultures.”
