Unity in Diversity at Museum Wave, Seoul, marks Jacky Tsai’s first solo museum exhibition in South Korea. Bringing together 17 works, the exhibition places his signature imagery alongside more recent pieces, tracing a practice shaped by the meeting of Chinese artistic traditions and Western contemporary visual culture.
Across painting, screen printing, porcelain, lacquer carving, embroidery and hand-stitched leather sculpture, the exhibition explores how different materials give form to Tsai’s cross-cultural imagination. Familiar figures and motifs meet in unexpected combinations, bringing questions of cultural identity and belonging into the gallery.
Works reflecting on the pandemic and its aftermath extend this dialogue into the present. Moving between connection and isolation, uncertainty and hope, Unity in Diversity considers a changing world through Tsai’s recurring themes of regeneration and renewal.
