City of Motion — Kuala Lumpur
Encounters with Edison Ang and Jimmy Choo

11th Aug 2026
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

In the Kuala Lumpur chapter of City of Motion, Jacky Tsai explores a city through the people he meets. Featuring Edison Ang and Jimmy Choo, the film brings friendship, cultural exchange and personal memory into a journey with the MG Cyberster.

The series follows Tsai through different cities, each approached through its own feeling and rhythm. Where Chengdu savours tradition and everyday rituals, Kuala Lumpur takes encounter as its starting point: a conversation, an unexpected exchange, or a reunion that connects the present with an earlier chapter of life.

With Edison Ang, the journey unfolds through the lively streets around Petaling Street and out towards a durian orchard. Tsai’s book, The Journey to the East, becomes part of a playful exchange: an artist’s account of his own journey meeting the flavours and hospitality of another place.

These moments give the film its sense of connection. Food, humour and conversation become ways of crossing cultural boundaries, while the city’s shopfronts, markets and night-time lights supply a shifting visual rhythm.

The meeting with Jimmy Choo adds a more personal layer. Their reunion in Malaysia comes around twenty years after Tsai’s early days in London, when he visited Choo’s studio. The exchange of a book and shoes brings two creative journeys into the same frame, linking the artist’s present practice with a formative memory.

Photographs from the shoot offer another view of the chapter: the crew working among shopfronts and passers-by, conversations between takes, and the energy of making a film within the life of the city.

Made with vehicle support from MG Motor Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur film continues a series in which movement becomes a way to discover both a place and the relationships that give it meaning.
